Localized Cryotherapy FAQ.

How long does a session last?

Our localized treatments last just 60-90 seconds depending on the area being treated and the severity of the issue.

What do I wear?

Loose, comfortable clothing that allows our staff to easily reach the affected area.

What if I have multiples areas that need to be treated?

In this case, we would highly recommend our whole body Cryotherapy treatment. The whole body chamber envelopes your body from the neck down and the treatment lasts 2.5 minutes.

Do I have to make an appointment or can I just walk in?

At this time, appointments are preferred so that we are able to allocate staff accordingly.

How often should I schedule my treatments?

This all depends on the individual. 2-3 times per week is ideal to achieve therapeutic results.

What is localized cryotherapy?

Localized cryotherapy is a targeted treatment that applies cold air (typically between -200°F and -250°F) to a specific area of the body. It’s commonly used for pain relief, injury recovery, and reducing inflammation in areas like the knees, shoulders, back, or joints.

How is it different from whole-body cryotherapy?

While whole-body cryotherapy treats the entire body, localized cryotherapy focuses on one specific area for a more concentrated effect. It’s ideal for treating isolated pain, injuries, or inflammation without exposing the rest of the body to extreme cold.

What are the benefits of localized cryotherapy?
  • Reduces inflammation and swelling

  • Speeds up healing of acute or chronic injuries

  • Eases joint and muscle pain

  • Increases range of motion

  • Accelerates post-surgery recovery

Improves circulation in the targeted area

What does it feel like? Is it painful?

It feels cold and intense but is not painful. Most people describe it as a strong cooling sensation that becomes more comfortable as the area goes numb. It’s quick and tolerable—even relaxing for some.

What areas of the body can be treated?

Common treatment areas include:

  • Neck and shoulders

  • Lower back

  • Elbows, wrists, and hands

  • Knees, ankles, and feet

Joints affected by arthritis or repetitive strain injuries

How soon can I expect results?

Many clients report reduced pain and increased mobility after just one session. For chronic conditions or athletic recovery, a series of treatments may provide the most lasting results.

Can it help with injuries like sprains or tendonitis?

Yes! Localized cryotherapy is highly effective for reducing inflammation and pain in acute injuries like sprains, strains, tendonitis, or bursitis. It can also help manage chronic joint pain or muscle tightness.

How often can I do localized cryotherapy?

You can safely do treatments multiple times per week, even daily if needed for acute injuries. Your provider can recommend a treatment plan based on your condition and goals.

Is it safe?

Yes, when administered by trained professionals. Localized cryotherapy is non-invasive, drug-free, and has minimal risk. It should be avoided on areas with poor circulation, open wounds, or if you have certain health conditions—your provider will screen for these beforehand.

Localized Cryotherapy FAQs – For Athletes

What is localized cryotherapy and how can it help athletes?

Localized cryotherapy uses a stream of super-cooled air to target specific muscles or joints. It helps reduce inflammation, relieve pain, and speed up recovery from intense training or injuries—making it a favorite among athletes at all levels.

How does it support athletic recovery?

By targeting a problem area with cold, localized cryotherapy reduces swelling, flushes out metabolic waste, and increases circulation. This speeds up healing and allows you to bounce back faster after training or competition.

What types of injuries or issues does it treat best?
  • Muscle strains and overuse injuries

  • Joint inflammation (knees, shoulders, ankles)

  • Tendonitis (e.g., Achilles, elbow)

  • Shin splints

  • Lower back pain

  • Post-game soreness and stiffness
Is it safe for regular use during a training season?

Yes. Localized cryotherapy is non-invasive and safe for frequent use. Many athletes use it multiple times a week—or even daily during intense training blocks or injury rehab.

How quickly does it work?

Some athletes feel immediate relief in the treated area, especially with acute inflammation or soreness. For chronic issues, a series of sessions can lead to longer-lasting improvements in mobility, pain, and performance.

Can it replace ice baths or icing?

Localized cryotherapy is faster, more comfortable, and often more effective than traditional icing. Unlike ice packs or baths, it doesn’t cause skin irritation or restrict movement post-treatment.

When should I use it—before or after workouts?

Typically, it’s used after workouts to reduce soreness and speed up recovery. It can also be used pre-game or pre-training to relieve tightness and improve mobility in a problem area.

Will it help me train or perform better?

Indirectly, yes. By speeding up recovery, reducing downtime, and keeping your joints and muscles healthy, localized cryotherapy supports consistent training—which is key to long-term performance gains.

Can it be used with other recovery methods?

Absolutely. Localized cryotherapy pairs well with massage, compression therapy, stretching, or infrared sauna sessions for a complete recovery protocol.
